That's it. It's done. It's over. Move along or Blizzard will be forced to spray you with the hose.
Yes, the gates of Ahn'Qiraj have, after weeks of brain-numbing farming and another week of foot-tapping waiting, finally opened. If you missed your chance at seeing this event, well, you can always go and create an alt on the next server that'll open, can't you? Ok, maybe not. But there are plenty of other servers that should be close to finishing, so go there and make your alt. Damn it. Well, you get the point.
As seen from coming a mile away, Medivh suffered a number of crashes in their quest to open the gates. And naturally, a whole bunch of screenshots of the event have appeared on the internets, some quickly leaving as soon as they arrived due to the traffic load. It's best to leave the event rundown, including the loot from the already slain boss of the AQ20 raid (must be some kind of record), to someone who was actually there, so have a looksie here. Full transcript to follow in case Jussie's site dies again (search within for links to pictures and videos):
Aq Reputation Info: or How to Farm for Epics!
You get 3 Cenarion Circle Reputation for Trash Mobs in AQ 20 (Think Zul Gurub)
You get 100 Brood Reputation from trash mobs in AQ 40
No Information is currently available about Rep From Bosses, but if it follows the ZG Scale, it will be 55 Reputation per boss. Zul'gurub was about 2000 reputation for a full clear, so ~21 runs of AQ20 for Exalted Reputation
40man Trash mobs are interesting to fight, as they reflect different magics. (Yay FFIV Wall)
Apparently 2 or 3 of the new ranks of spells/skills drop per boss in AQ20
Coins drop alot from Trash mobs as well as from chests inside the zones.
There was a rumor of a group of 5 killing small groups of early mobs in AQ20, so its is perhaps still possible for 'casual' epics.

For those who can't read it.
The Might of Kalmidor is victorious! The last of the Qiraji forces are defeated, retreating back to the ancient city-fortress of Ahn'Qiraj. The Qiraji Resonating Crytsals littering Kalimdor vanish as quickly as they appeared, leaving behind nothing but sundered earth.
Lerathus of the Medivh Server had the following to say about the event.
Guess I'm the only Medivher to post here yet, but yeah, we opened it, and yeah the server went tits up, 7 times BEFORE we opened, and once after.
When the gong was rang, 4 massive dog-headed mobs (Anibisath IIRC) spawned outside, and General Rajaxx spawned on top of the archway of the gate. Also with the dogs were Qiraji generals. They hit for around 3500 per attack, not including their AOE dd, and AOE panic attacks. We trained most of them towards Cenarion Enclave, where it took about 5 minutes per Anubisath to kill them, with the help of all the newly spawned guards.
Elsewhere in southern Kalimdor, Resonating Crystal formations spawned, one of which spawned inside Gadgetzan. These crystals randoming mind controlled player characters, and you have to kill the character to stop the MC. Each crystal spawned three boss mobs, and about 5 minutes after that, about 12 elite bugs. The three boss mobs all dropped at least 1 green, sometimes 3 green, and sometimes 1 blue item. All items dropped were level specific, such that level 45 elites in Shimmering Flats were dropping 40-48 items. I didn't get to see what the Tanaris bosses were dropping, since we didn't get to tag the bosses there before they got taken down.
Aside from all that excitement (spawns in Feathermoon, Feralas, Barrens, 1k Needles, Tanaris, Ungoro, Silithus), at the two big hives in Silithus there were these BEHEMOTH monsters called Collosals. These things looked like mountain sized dung beetles. They were flipping out and killing people. It took us all night to kill them.
I logged off at about 2:30am server time, and when I logged back in at lunch (1:00pm server time) all of the crystals had despawned, so I'm guessing that the death of the collosals caused the depops of the crystals and bosses in southern Kalimdor.
All in all, the event was pretty neat, alot of folks got some wicked neat loot, the gong ringer got an legendary mount (Qiraji battle tank), and we all got to do outdoor raids at whatever level we chose. The lag was pretty much unbearable in Silithus, but outside of there it was pretty much normal.
It has been reasonably confirmed that the person who uses the sceptre on the gong gets the Legendary Bug mount. This mount is the Silithis Mount that allows its use outside of the 20 or 40 man instance.
The item itself is linked on thottbot here:

After Defeating one of the colossus's from one of the Hives, A new quest opens up in Cenarion Hold:
Secrets of the Colossus
Regal quest requires you to take an item (given to you by questgiver) to the Overseer at Thorium Point. The reward is 800 points of faction with Thorium Brotherhood and a Colossal Bag Of Loot, which for me contained 2 BoE Green lvl 59 armors, 1 BoE blue (Wolfrunner Shoes), and assorted major mana/health pots and quail/drinks.
This has been confirmed by multiple people: 2 Level 55-60 Greens, and One Blue Items, As well as the pots.
An interesting Note: the horde/alliance npcs heal eachother for 4100-4600 every 2 seconds :o (Thanks to Bugzy of Shadowmoon Server)
You get 250 Brood of Nozdormu rep for killing each level 61 elite guardian around AQ, which is nice, but don't expect those to be up for long.
For those of you who were curious how to get the sceptre for the gong:
But I find that the WoW wiki is a little more concise so I'm going to flagrantly Copy/Paste Their content here for those to lazy to click the above links:
1. Discover Anachronos in Tanaris.
2. Only One May Rise, loot the head of Broodlord Lashlayer from Blackwing Lair
3. The Path of the Righteous and The Hand of the Righteous. Farm yourself from Hated reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu to neutral.
4. Anachronos sends you back to the dragon in Tanaris for further questing.
5. Long Forgotten Memories & A Pawn on the Eternal Board involve a cinematic re-enactment of the closing of the gates.
6. The Charge of the Dragonflights: Following that world event, Anachronos explains that the Scepter of the Shifting Sands used to open the gates was shattered, and that Eranikus, Azuregos and Vaelastrasz each have a piece. A quest chain follows for each dragon.
6.a) Vaelastrasz's fragment of the scepter is not too complicated to secure, though neither is it easy--just go down into Blackwing Lair and kill Vaelastrasz the Corrupt.
6.b) Finding Azuregos's fragment is a much more elaborate affair, involving three chains of sub-quests aimed at the construction of a psychic buoy to summon a minnow named Maws who holds the scepter fragment. Along the way, you must clear Blackwing Lair (again) and Molten Core (twice) and defeat the nefarious "Doctor Weavil." Fires of Heaven guild has a nice write-up of this strange quest chain in a post of January the 8th to their website.
6.c) Acquiring Eranikus's fragment of the scepter involves defeating four green dragonkin from around Azeroth (including a new one called the Twilight Corruptor) to complete a quest called The Nightmare's Corruption issued by Remulos. After accomplishing this, you begin a new quest where you must fight Eranikus, Tyrant of the Dream but not defeat him, while at the same time ensuring that Remulos is not killed.
As stated in the above transcript, people who complete the gong quest get the chance at obtaining a new bug mount (note: not bugged mount). The thottbot link goes a step further and outlines the catch to this quest - you must turn in the gong within 10 hours of the gong being gonged. Due to the length of the quest, the farming involved, and the number of boss kills which only raid-orientated guilds have a chance at completing, you can bet that only a few people per server, if that, will lay their hands on the gong, turn it in, and get the mount. By now the 10 hours on Medivh is up and only Kalahad, the original gong gonger, will have the mount. Although bug mounts do in fact drop within the AQ instance (designed to help characters move at a faster speed due to the size of the dungeon), the gong bug is visually different, can be ridden outside AQ, and has already caused a slight uproar on some boards with people complaining that the gong gonger gets rewarded with it (note: this mount is no faster than any other 100% speed mount and merely has a different color) instead of the entire guild whom helped the gonger get the gong.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is how guild dramas start. I do hope Kalahad is surrounded by friends.
(((Congrats to the players of Medivh that made this event happen)))
