Assumptions.
Jumping to conclusions. Spinning round and round and then blindly pointing at a
map. Let's take a stab at it!
My blog
stats page has just recently shown a number of hits coming from Square Enix.
The
referral for these hits is a Google Japan search for "Spacetime
Studios".
That's the
Square Enix that announced it is looking for a North American publishing
partner and is looking to expand its presence in MMOs.
That's the
Spacetime Studios that had its MMO project "Blackstar" dumped by publisher NCSoft earlier this year.
Now,
what's an alternative to spending 5 years development time and tens of millions
of your own money on an MMO, and then having to localize and market it
for the North American market? Pick up and publish a MMO already built for
the North American market.
And
what's the very first step made in a due diligence before you end up flying out
to the studio to freak out management staff and check under the carpet? Gathering
data about the studio from the interwebs via our information overlord, Google.
Success!
Rumor complete!
Feel free
to add your own additions. Bonus points will be awarded to anyone that can link
the rumor to it having something to do with Shadowbane.
Oh, and
Square Enix, about that aforementioned Gamespot article...
The
company is also looking to expand its presence in casual games and in massively
multiplayer online role playing games, which generate ongoing revenue via
subscriptions.
You could
easily have some more subscriptions if your resubscription process wasn't so silly.
This post accounts for half of my page hits even to this day. It even
outnumbers the pr0n searches.
