Up until a little while ago Atomic was running a story that claimed the new WoW character transfer system would be opening today. The story has since been taken down and replaced with:
We have been advised by Blizzard to remove the story that you have linked to.
The Australian Vivendi office had previously given us the OK to publish the information, we published the story on that basis in good faith.
Blizzard and Vivendi has since apologised for the incorrect embargo information given to us yesterday.
The story will return at a later date.
Evil Avatar was quick enough to grab some text before the dogs were let loose.
Starting today, Blizzard will allow players of its popular World of Warcraft massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) to transfer character between realms - a feature long sought after by players and a very welcome addition.
In order to transfer, players must make sure their character's mailbox is empty and that no mail is incoming, their auctions are completed and they cannot be the leader of a guild. Characters of level 10 or less cannot be transferred, and characters carrying large amounts of gold cannot move either. This is to prevent 'gold farmers' from spreading to new servers or servers with developing economies and upsetting the normal processes that occur with new server growth.
The gold limits are as follows:
Level 10-30: 300 gold limit
Level 31-50: 1000 gold limit
Level 51+: 5000 gold limit
Incorrect embargo information? I have a feeling we'll end up seeing that refers to the date, rather than the mechanics.
(In other news, still getting my shit back together. Expect a catch up update sometime)
Update: Transfers confirmed.
